Black Rock Renovation

As featured by Houzz, this renovation transformed a very tired 1970’s brown brick unit into a light, airy, and spacious family home.  By adding a second storey, the floorspace was increased from 2 bedrooms and one bathroom at 140 square metres, up to four bedrooms and two bathrooms with 225 square metres to spread out in.

Despite the increase in square metreage, careful planning was still required to ensure layouts of each room maximised flow, and enabled  practical use of the space.  Six layout options were presented for the kitchen/ meals/ living areas, allowing the clients to choose the one that would best work for their lifestyle.

Materials used in the interiors also needed to be practical for a young family, as well as budget-friendly.  A restrained palette of charcoal, white, and oak help create a sense of flow throughout the home, and provide a neutral backdrop for the homeowner's furniture and accessories.
